Found in human blood and urine, N-acetyltaurine can increase after alcohol ingestion or metabolic stress (such as ketoacidosis)[7]. It is not a protein, enzyme, receptor, or transporter and lacks well-characterized signaling or enzymatic functions. N-acetyltaurine can serve as a minor carbon or nitrogen source for microbes and may be deacetylated by specific amidases in some tissues[1][7]. It is a metabolic derivative of taurine and does not play a direct role as a drug target or clinical therapeutic.
