N-alpha-acetyltransferase 16, NatA auxiliary subunit (NAA16)

Target
NAA16
Molecular classification
Enzyme complex subunit, Auxiliary protein, Other (regulatory protein)
01

Overview

N-alpha-acetyltransferase 16 (NAA16) is an auxiliary (non-catalytic) subunit that forms part of the NatA complex, which carries out N-terminal acetylation on proteins during translation in eukaryotic cells[2][7]. This modification helps regulate protein stability, localization, and function. NAA16 assists in ribosome binding and influences apoptotic processes and protein stabilization, serving a regulatory and scaffolding function in the NatA complex[2][3][6]. Another closely related auxiliary subunit in the NatA complex is NAA15, and NAA16 is a paralog of NAA15[2][7]. NAA16 is located in the cytosol[2][6]. It is not a direct enzymatic target for pharmacological agents, and no drugs or biomarkers are currently associated specifically with NAA16. There are no known spelling errors or missing information based on current gene/protein knowledge and nomenclature[2][6][7].
