Overview

N-alpha-acetyltransferase 35, NatC auxiliary subunit (NAA35) is a cytoplasmic protein encoded by the NAA35 gene in humans and is a component of the N-terminal acetyltransferase C (NatC) complex[2][3][5]. This auxiliary subunit does not have catalytic activity itself but is essential for the function of the NatC complex, which acetylates the N-terminal methionine of substrate proteins—a critical post-translational modification influencing protein stability, localization, and function[3][4][8]. Alternative splicing results in at least two isoforms; the protein is widely conserved across species and is reported in mammals, birds, and amphibians[1][5][6]. Though it is involved in fundamental cellular processes like regulating apoptosis and cell proliferation, there is currently little evidence for direct drug targeting, biomarker usage, or major involvement as a therapeutic target in human disease[5][6].
