N-glycolyl-GM3 ganglioside

Molecular classification
Glycosphingolipid, Ganglioside, Tumor-associated antigen
01

Overview

N-glycolyl-GM3 ganglioside is a sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipid found primarily in tumors. It differs from the common GM3 ganglioside by possessing N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) instead of N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac). Due to its tumor-specific expression, it serves as a valuable target for cancer immunotherapy. It modulates immune function by impairing dendritic cell differentiation and reducing CD4 expression in T cells, contributing to tumor immune escape. Monoclonal antibody 14F7 specifically recognizes N-glycolyl-GM3, making it a potential agent for targeted therapy.
