N-myc proto-oncogene protein (N-Myc)

Target
N-Myc
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Proto-oncogene, bHLH protein
01

Overview

N-myc proto-oncogene protein is a transcription factor encoded by the *MYCN* gene. It plays a critical role in embryonic development and cell growth/division. Amplification or overexpression of *MYCN* is strongly associated with neuroblastoma and other cancers. Mutations or deletions are linked to Feingold syndrome type 1. It functions by dimerizing with other bHLH proteins to bind DNA and regulate target gene transcription. N-Myc is considered an important therapeutic target.
