Overview

N-terminal asparagine amidase pseudogene 1 (NTAN1P1) is a predicted noncoding pseudogene derived from the NTAN1 gene, which encodes N-terminal asparagine amidase, an enzyme involved in protein degradation through the N-end rule pathway[7]. NTAN1P1 does not encode a functional protein, and there are no established biological functions, disease associations, or known drug interactions for this pseudogene. Its similarity in name to NTAN1, a recognized enzyme, may cause confusion; however, NTAN1P1 is a pseudogene and not regarded as a drug target, receptor, transporter, or enzyme[7]. Essential clarification: - NTAN1P1 is easily confused with NTAN1 (N-terminal asparagine amidase), an enzyme with active biological function[2][4]. Only NTAN1 is a true protein target—NTAN1P1 is not. - There are no reports of NTAN1P1 acting as a miRNA decoy or regulating NTAN1 function, unlike well-studied pseudogenes such as PTENP1, KRASP1, or HMGA1-p[1][5]. - NTAN1P1’s status as a pseudogene means it is not considered a therapeutic target, and it is not involved in recognized molecular pathways or disease processes.
