Target intelligence / Profile preview

N-terminal asparagine amidase pseudogene 2 (NTAN1P2)

Target
NTAN1P2
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), if transcribed
01

Overview

N-terminal asparagine amidase pseudogene 2 (NTAN1P2) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional DNA sequence derived from a gene that usually encodes a protein, in this case homologous to N-terminal asparagine amidase. Pseudogenes like NTAN1P2 do not produce functional proteins due to presence of disabling mutations (such as premature stops or frameshifts), and are typically considered "junk DNA" or remnants of evolution[3]. However, some pseudogenes are transcribed as noncoding RNAs and may participate in gene regulation by acting as microRNA decoys or through other noncoding RNA mechanisms[2][4]. There is currently no evidence that NTAN1P2 plays a specific biological role or is involved in disease or drug targeting. Its main relevance is as a marker for evolutionary gene history and potentially for regulatory studies involving noncoding RNAs derived from pseudogenes.

Biological functions

May have regulatory noncoding RNA functions if transcribed, such as acting as a miRNA sponge or decoyNo known canonical protein-coding functions
03

Disease associations

General pseudogene disease associations: some pseudogenes regulate tumor suppressors or oncogenes via noncoding RNA mechanisms, but no specific role attributed to NTAN1P2
