N-type Voltage-Gated Calcium Channel (CaV2.2)

Target
CaV2.2
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel, High-voltage-activated calcium channel
01

Overview

N-type voltage-gated calcium channels (CaV2.2) are a subtype of high-voltage-activated (HVA) calcium channels predominantly found in the nervous system, especially at presynaptic nerve terminals and dendrites, as well as in neuroendocrine cells. These channels play a crucial role in mediating rapid calcium influx that triggers neurotransmitter release, synaptogenesis, gene expression, and are essential for normal synaptic transmission. They are validated targets for pain management and potential targets for neurological disorders involving synaptic dysfunction or hyperexcitability.
