It is a retrocopy of the ancestral *nascent polypeptide associated complex alpha subunit* (NACA) and is located on chromosome 10q26.12[4][10]. As a pseudogene, NACAP2 does not encode a functional protein and has no recognized biological or clinical function. Its sequence shares homology with the parent NACA gene, which is involved in protein folding, ribosome interaction, and transcriptional regulation, but NACAP2 itself is genetically inert and is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter[6][7][10]. There are no disease associations, interacting drugs, or mechanisms of action described for NACAP2. It is often included in genomic annotations due to its similarity to NACA, but its lack of protein coding potential makes it irrelevant for drug discovery or therapeutic intervention[7][10].
