NAD(P)H dehydrogenase (quinone) (NQO1) is a cytosolic flavoprotein enzyme that catalyzes the two-electron reduction of quinones to hydroquinones using either NADH or NADPH as electron donors. This reaction is crucial for detoxifying quinones and preventing the formation of semiquinone radicals and reactive oxygen species, which can be damaging to cells. It plays a key role in redox regulation and protein stability, and its altered expression is linked with disease susceptibility.
