NADH dehydrogenase pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other, pseudogene, non-coding RNA
01

Overview

NADH dehydrogenase pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences with high similarity to the active NADH dehydrogenase genes (such as those encoding subunits of mitochondrial complex I), but they carry mutations, deletions, or insertions that make them non-functional at the protein level[1]. In the human genome, multiple pseudogenes exist related to NADH dehydrogenase subunits; for example, NDUFV2P1 is a pseudogene related to the functional NDUFV2 gene[1]. While pseudogenes do not encode active enzymes or therapeutic targets, some may be transcribed and produce non-coding RNAs with regulatory effects, such as acting as competitors for microRNAs or influencing local chromatin structure, though such roles remain mostly speculative and rare[3]. They are not considered therapeutic targets. The Ensembl ID ENSG00000267713 refers specifically to a pseudogene, not to an active protein-coding gene or classical drug target[3][1].
