Overview

NADH oxidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) by transferring electrons to molecular oxygen. This process results in the formation of either water or reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide. The enzyme plays a central role in energy metabolism by participating in electron transfer within the respiratory chain and helps regulate cellular redox homeostasis. In some organisms, including bacteria, it also contributes to antimicrobial defense through hydrogen peroxide production[4]. Structurally, many NADH oxidases contain a TIM-barrel fold at their N-terminal region[5].
