NADH Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase (Complex I)

Target
Complex I
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase, Membrane protein
01

Overview

NADH Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase (Complex I) is the first and largest enzyme of the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC). It catalyzes the transfer of electrons from NADH to ubiquinone, reducing it to ubiquinol, and couples this with the translocation of protons across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Dysfunction is associated with various hereditary and degenerative diseases due to impaired energy production and increased ROS generation.
