As a pseudogene, NDUFB10P1 harbors gene-disabling mutations and lacks regulatory elements required for normal transcription and translation, resulting in no protein product[5][2]. Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate parent gene expression at the RNA level and may serve as evolutionary markers or, rarely, have novel regulatory roles.
