Overview

NDUFB4P1 (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit B4 pseudogene 1) is a human pseudogene—a genomic DNA sequence similar to NDUFB4 (which encodes a structural subunit of mitochondrial Complex I)[11][9]. However, NDUFB4P1 does not code for any protein product and has no known function in mitochondrial respiration or any other cellular process. Pseudogenes like NDUFB4P1 are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and usually have lost coding potential due to accumulated mutations. NDUFB4P1 is not a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, and is not associated with any known diseases, drugs, or therapeutic mechanisms[11][9]. Note: - NDUFB4 (without "P1") encodes a non-catalytic accessory subunit of mitochondrial Complex I, which functions in the electron transport chain, but the pseudogene NDUFB4P1 does not encode this or any similar protein[1][3][5][13]. - All functional and mechanistic annotations for NDUFB4 should not be attributed to NDUFB4P1[11][7][9]. - This entry is non-functional and should not be considered a drug or research target.
