Overview

NADP-dependent oxidoreductase domain-containing protein 1 (NOXRED1) is a probable oxidoreductase enzyme encoded by the human NOXRED1 gene. It is predicted to catalyze the reduction of pyrroline-5-carboxylate, potentially participating in the L-proline biosynthetic pathway, although its precise biochemical function awaits experimental validation. NOXRED1 is expressed in a variety of tissues, with evidence for involvement in cellular metabolic regulation, especially relating to glutamine and proline metabolism. Genomic studies have implicated NOXRED1 variants in patient outcomes for cutaneous melanoma, suggesting a disease-modifying role and possible use as a prognostic biomarker. At present, there are no approved drugs or known drug interactions with NOXRED1, and its direct role as a therapeutic target remains under investigation.
