Target intelligence / Profile preview

NADPH quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1)

Target
NQO1
Molecular classification
Flavoprotein enzyme, NAD(P)H dehydrogenase (quinone) family
01

Overview

NADPH quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) is a cytosolic flavoprotein enzyme that catalyzes the two-electron reduction of quinones to hydroquinones, preventing the formation of reactive oxygen species. It plays a role in detoxification, antioxidant defense, and stabilization of regulatory proteins like p53. NQO1 is overexpressed in various cancers and is a potential target for pro-drug activation strategies. Polymorphisms in the NQO1 gene are associated with altered susceptibility to oxidative stress-related diseases.
