Overview

Napsin A aspartic peptidase (NAPSA) is an aspartic protease of the peptidase A1 family, predominantly expressed in the lung and kidney[1][2][3][4]. It plays a role in the proteolytic processing of surfactant protein B in alveolar type II pneumocytes and is also involved in protein catabolism in the renal proximal tubules[2][3][7]. Napsin A is primarily used as a biomarker in pathology to distinguish lung adenocarcinomas from other forms of lung cancer and in the diagnosis of certain renal neoplasms[1][2]. It is not currently a direct drug target and has no known therapeutic drugs or characterized mechanisms of pharmacological modulation. Its diagnostic utility is well established in oncology as a tissue biomarker[2].
