Narrowband ultraviolet B (NBUVB) phototherapy is a physical treatment modality that delivers UVB light at 311 nm to the skin. Its primary action is through interaction with cellular DNA, leading to DNA damage, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. Additionally, NBUVB induces immunomodulation by suppressing inflammatory cytokines and reducing the activity of immune cells. It is used to treat various inflammatory skin diseases like psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis.
NBUVB does not directly target a specific molecule but instead acts by delivering UVB light at 311 nm, which interacts with cellular components in the skin, primarily DNA, to induce photoproducts.
