Nasal Blood Vessel Alpha Adrenergic Receptor

Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)
01

Overview

The nasal blood vessel alpha adrenergic receptor refers to alpha-adrenergic receptors (primarily alpha-1 and alpha-2 subtypes) located on the smooth muscle cells of blood vessels within the nasal mucosa. Activation of these receptors leads to vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow and alleviating nasal congestion. Decongestant medications target these receptors to provide relief from nasal congestion.
