Nasal Mucosa

Molecular classification
Epithelium, Connective Tissue, Mucous Membrane
01

Overview

The nasal mucosa is a specialized mucous membrane lining the nasal cavity, responsible for air conditioning, filtration, immune defense, olfaction, and drainage. It is composed of pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells, a basement membrane, lamina propria with blood vessels and glands, and a submucosa containing glands and venous-like blood spaces. It is a frequent site of inflammation due to infections, allergies, and environmental irritants.
