Nasopharyngeal bacterial load is a quantitative measurement of the concentration of bacteria in the nasopharynx, typically assessed by molecular diagnostic methods (e.g., PCR) or culture of nasopharyngeal swabs. It reflects the presence and degree of colonization by potentially pathogenic organisms, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Klebsiella pneumoniae, among others.
