Overview

Natriuretic peptide receptor 1 (NPR1) is a membrane-bound guanylyl cyclase that serves as the primary receptor for atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP). These peptides are potent vasoactive hormones with key roles in cardiovascular and renal homeostasis. Upon ligand binding, NPR1 catalyzes the conversion of GTP to cGMP, leading to vasodilation, natriuresis, and other physiological effects. Dysfunction of NPR1 is associated with heart failure and hypertension, making it a therapeutic target.
