Natriuretic Peptide Receptor A (NPRA), also known as Guanylyl Cyclase A (GC-A), is a transmembrane receptor that binds atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP). Upon ligand binding, NPRA catalyzes the conversion of GTP to cGMP, leading to vasodilation, natriuresis, diuresis, and inhibition of cardiac remodeling. It plays a crucial role in blood pressure regulation and fluid/electrolyte balance. Elevated plasma levels of ANP/BNP are used clinically as biomarkers for heart failure.
