C-type Natriuretic Peptide Receptor

Molecular classification
Receptor, Transmembrane receptor, Guanylyl cyclase receptor, Clearance receptor
01

Overview

The C-type natriuretic peptide receptor encompasses two main receptor types: NPR-B (also known as guanylyl cyclase-B or GC-B) and NPR-C. NPR-B is primarily activated by CNP, leading to increased intracellular cGMP and vasodilation. It plays a critical role in bone growth. NPR-C binds all natriuretic peptides and primarily functions as a clearance receptor, although it also signals through G proteins. Both receptors influence cardiovascular function and metabolic regulation, making them potential therapeutic targets for diseases like heart failure and metabolic syndrome.
