Natural cytotoxicity triggering receptor 1, commonly known as NKp46, is a major activating receptor found primarily on the surface of natural killer (NK) cells. It plays a central role in the immune system’s ability to recognize and eliminate virus-infected cells, tumor cells, and other abnormal or stressed target cells. Upon binding to its ligands, NKp46 triggers activation of NK cell cytolytic functions and cytokine production.
Ligand binding triggers ITAM-dependent signaling cascade, leading to NK cell activation and target cell lysis.
