Overview
Natural killer (NK) cell activity refers to the functional capacity of NK cells, a type of cytotoxic lymphocyte in the innate immune system, to recognize and destroy abnormal cells such as virus-infected or cancerous cells. NK cell activation is governed by a balance between activating and inhibitory signals received through various surface receptors. Measuring natural killer cell activity serves as an indicator of innate immune function; Low activity may correlate with increased susceptibility to infections or cancer progression, and high or dysregulated activity may contribute to autoimmune conditions.
