Natural killer group 2 member D (NKG2D) ligand-expressing immunosuppressive cells are immune cells that express ligands for the NKG2D receptor, a potent activating receptor found on natural killer (NK) cells and certain T cell subsets. The expression of these ligands can have both immunostimulatory and immunosuppressive effects depending on the context and cell type involved. These cells contribute to immunosuppression by downregulating or inhibiting effector functions of NK and T cells through persistent or repeated engagement of NKG2D.
