NAV2 antisense RNA 2 is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the NAV2 gene. It inhibits endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) by forming a sense-antisense RNA duplex with NAV2 messenger RNA, leading to increased NAV2 protein expression. This regulation helps downregulate Snail, a transcription factor driving EndMT, and thereby exerts anti-atherosclerotic effects with potential therapeutic relevance. The expression of NAV2-AS2 is reduced in atherosclerotic patient serum and animal models, and experimental overexpression in endothelial cells can prevent and treat diet-induced atherosclerosis in mouse models[1]. NAV2-AS2 is categorized as a long non-coding RNA involved in vascular biology, but no drugs or targeted therapies are currently associated with this molecule[1][5].
