NAV3 antisense RNA 1 (NAV3-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed from the opposite strand of the NAV3 gene locus. It is classified as a natural antisense transcript (NAT), a type of RNA species that can overlap with protein-coding genes and modulate their expression, primarily through transcriptional interference or epigenetic mechanisms[2]. Like other antisense RNAs, NAV3-AS1 may regulate the expression of its sense counterpart (NAV3) or other nearby genes, although its specific biological or pathophysiological roles have not been detailed in the literature to date. There is no evidence supporting NAV3-AS1 as a direct therapeutic target, and no drugs or established biomarkers involve this molecule at present[2]. Key distinction: - NAV3-AS1 is a regulatory noncoding RNA with potential roles in gene regulation but has not been characterized as a receptor, enzyme, or typical druggable therapeutic target. - If the intended focus was the protein-coding gene, use Neuron navigator 3 (NAV3) which encodes a microtubule-associated protein implicated in neurodevelopment and cancer and may have clearer roles in disease and therapeutic targeting[1][3][5][6].
