NAXE pseudogene 2 (NAXEP2) is a processed pseudogene, meaning it is derived from the retrotransposition of mRNA, and thus lacks introns and canonical promoter/enhancer sequences. As a pseudogene, it shares sequence similarity with the parent gene coding for NAD(P)HX epimerase, possibly the functional gene NAXE (previously named AIBP), but does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like NAXEP2 are generally considered non-coding relics, although some may have regulatory activity through RNA-based mechanisms or impact gene expression in disease contexts. Current literature and public databases do not provide evidence for NAXEP2 having direct biological, therapeutic, or disease-related roles.
