Overview

NCF4 antisense RNA 1 (NCF4-AS1) is a long noncoding (non-protein coding) RNA molecule, annotated in the human genome adjacent to and transcribed antisense to the protein-coding NCF4 gene[4][6]. It is classified as a natural antisense transcript (NAT). As with other antisense lncRNAs, NCF4-AS1 may regulate its corresponding sense gene via transcriptional interference, alteration of mRNA stability, or epigenetic modifications, though its precise physiological or disease roles remain uncharacterized in current scientific literature[7]. There is no evidence at present that NCF4-AS1 functions as a direct receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar classical drug target, nor is it implicated as a clinical biomarker or pathology-relevant locus in humans[4][6]. If you require information at the sense gene/protein level (NCF4: Neutrophil cytosolic factor 4), this is a different entity and is a bona fide therapeutic target in some immune and inflammatory conditions, but NCF4-AS1 remains only an annotated lncRNA without direct drug, clinical, or disease evidence at this time[4][6].

Biological functions

Likely regulates gene expression of the sense NCF4 gene at the RNA level (inferred from general NAT/lncRNA biology)Could influence transcriptional or post-transcriptional processes such as mRNA stability, methylation, chromatin configuration, or translation (based on lncRNA and antisense RNA mechanisms)Other (insufficient direct evidence for more specific functions)

Disease associations

Other (no direct evidence for roles in cancer, inflammation, neurodegeneration, cardiovascular disease, or infection for NCF4-AS1 itself)
