NCK2 antisense RNA 1 (NCK2-AS1) is a cytoplasm-distributed long non-coding RNA that acts as a molecular sponge for specific microRNAs (notably miR-6857), antagonizing their function and leading to increased expression of genes involved in cell proliferation and cell cycle progression (such as CDK1/6). High expression of NCK2-AS1 has been linked to increased proliferation, migration, and invasion of cervical cancer cells, making it a putative oncogenic lncRNA marker. Knockdown of NCK2-AS1 results in cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase, reduced cell proliferation, and diminished invasive ability in vitro and in vivo. There is current interest in NCK2-AS1 as a biomarker and possibly an experimental therapeutic target in oncology. NCK2 antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding RNA with oncogenic properties, mainly investigated in cervical cancer as a mechanism regulating miRNA activity and the cell cycle, but not as a classic druggable target or receptor.
Experimentally, NCK2-AS1 acts as a molecular sponge for miR-6857, regulating downstream genes such as CDK1/6.
