NCKAP5 antisense RNA 1 (NCKAP5-AS1)

Target
NCKAP5-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Non-coding RNA family
01

Overview

NCKAP5 antisense RNA 1 (NCKAP5-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA that is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the NCKAP5 coding region. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it is involved in the regulation of its sense gene and possibly other genes through mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, and modulation of RNA stability. Antisense lncRNAs can act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors by influencing cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and therapy resistance, mainly in the context of cancer. NCKAP5-AS1 is not a protein or receptor, and there are no established therapeutic agents or biomarkers directly targeting it based on current evidence[2][4].

Mechanism of action

Not directly drug-targeted; antisense oligonucleotides can degrade or modulate lncRNAs via RNase H-mediated cleavage or steric blocking

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (cis and trans regulation at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels)Potential regulation of nearby gene (NCKAP5) expressionInvolvement in chromatin modification, transcriptional interference, and possibly RNA stability
04

Disease associations

Cancer (lncRNA and antisense lncRNAs are often implicated in cancer biology, including acting as oncogenes or tumor suppressors)Other: Specific disease roles for NCKAP5-AS1 itself are incompletely characterized, but by analogy to other antisense lncRNAs, roles in tumorigenesis or tumor progression are likely
