NDUFV2 antisense RNA 1 (NDUFV2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 18p11.22. It is transcribed from the opposite strand of the NDUFV2 gene, and is approximately 1,400 nucleotides in length. NDUFV2-AS1 is highly expressed in the brain and has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders. There is also emerging evidence that it is involved in the regulation of gene expression and possibly in various cancer contexts. However, the specific molecular mechanisms, biological effects, and disease associations of NDUFV2-AS1 are still largely under study, with most current findings implicating a regulatory role for this lncRNA in the central nervous system and in cancer, but with no established direct role as a therapeutic drug target or biomarker to date.
