Necator americanus aspartic protease 1 (Na-APR-1) is a 45 kDa cathepsin D-like aspartic protease expressed by the human hookworm Necator americanus, the most common cause of human hookworm infection worldwide[1][5]. Na-APR-1 initiates the proteolytic cascade that digests host hemoglobin in the parasite gut, a key process for parasite nutrition and survival[1][5].
