Necdin homolog pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Other

Overview

Necdin homolog pseudogene refers to a genetic sequence in the human genome that resembles the functional gene encoding the protein "necdin," but has accumulated mutations or structural changes rendering it nonfunctional[1][3]. Pseudogenes such as this may occasionally be transcribed at very low levels, but typically do not encode proteins and lack the regulatory elements required for normal gene expression. While some pseudogenes have acquired regulatory functions (e.g., acting as decoys for microRNAs), there is no evidence that ENSG00000257823 has such a role[1][2][3]. This locus is not used as a therapeutic target or biomarker.
