Necrotic Myocardial Tissue (Calcium Deposition Sites)

Molecular classification
Pathological State, Tissue Modification
01

Overview

Necrotic myocardial tissue with calcium deposition refers to areas of the heart muscle that have undergone cell death (necrosis), most commonly due to ischemic injury such as myocardial infarction (MI). In these regions, calcium salts accumulate—a process known as dystrophic calcification—resulting in visible deposits within the damaged myocardium. This pathological state serves as an important marker for prior cardiac injury and may be relevant for targeted imaging agents designed to bind exposed hydroxyapatite in vivo.
