"Necrotic myocardium" refers to heart muscle tissue that has undergone irreversible cell death due to severe and prolonged ischemia—usually as a result of an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack)[1][3][5]. The loss of viable cardiomyocytes leads to loss of function in that region, potential adverse cardiac remodeling, and risk for complications such as heart failure or arrhythmia. The diagnosis of myocardial necrosis relies on clinical criteria, ECG, imaging, and most sensitively, biochemical markers such as cardiac troponins[3][7]. While many therapeutic strategies are aimed at preventing, minimizing, or repairing necrosis, necrotic myocardium itself is a consequence or state, not a molecular entity that can be directly targeted by drugs[1][2][6].
