NECTIN3-AS1 does not encode a protein, as confirmed by its lack of protein-coding potential in multiple prediction algorithms[2]. Its sequence has three exons and is classified as an antisense_lncRNA, most likely functioning by regulating its endogenous sense pair (NECTIN3/PVRL3) at the RNA level. General properties of antisense lncRNAs include the ability to modulate transcription, RNA stability, and sometimes translation of the overlapping sense gene, but there is currently no literature describing the specific function of NECTIN3-AS1[2][6].
