NECTIN4 antisense RNA 1 (NECTIN4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the opposite DNA strand at the NECTIN4 locus on human chromosome 1. As a natural antisense transcript, it does not encode a protein but is postulated to regulate the expression of the NECTIN4 gene, potentially by influencing chromatin structure, promoting or suppressing transcription, or modulating splicing and stability of NECTIN4 mRNA. While antisense lncRNAs such as NECTIN4-AS1 are increasingly recognized as important regulators in cancer and epigenetic processes, there is currently no evidence that NECTIN4-AS1 itself is a direct pharmacological target or that any drugs specifically interact with or modulate its function. The functional nuances of NECTIN4-AS1 remain under investigation, but the broader class of antisense lncRNAs is implicated in processes such as tumorigenesis, gene silencing, and drug resistance, mostly through gene regulation at the RNA level.
