Overview

NDFIP1P1 is a pseudogene, a nonfunctional DNA sequence that resembles the protein-coding gene Nedd4 family interacting protein 1 (NDFIP1). Pseudogenes typically lack the ability to produce a functional protein due to disabling mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons. As such, NDFIP1P1 does not encode a functional protein, does not play a direct biological role, and is not considered a therapeutic target. It may share sequence homology with NDFIP1, which is involved in immune regulation and nervous system development, but NDFIP1P1 itself is not known to contribute to disease, interact with drugs, or serve as a biomarker[2][3]. NDFIP1P1 is classified as a pseudogene based on current genomic annotations[3]. Pseudogenes generally do not produce functional proteins and are regarded as "genomic fossils" or "junk DNA," though rare regulatory or decoy RNA functions are sometimes observed, typically in much better characterized cases[2]. The functional gene NDFIP1 (not NDFIP1P1) is involved in T-cell biology, immune tolerance, and neurodevelopment[1]. Confusion often arises between pseudogenes and their functional counterparts, but the "pseudogene" designation indicates a lack of known biological function or therapeutic relevance for NDFIP1P1[2][3]. Because NDFIP1P1 is a pseudogene, it is not a therapeutic target (enzyme, receptor, transporter, etc.), and should not be considered as such. There is no evidence of drug interaction, biomarker utility, or direct involvement in disease known for NDFIP1P1.
