Therapeutic strategies targeting these components often rely on cationic molecules, such as polymyxins or antimicrobial peptides, which bind via electrostatic interactions to disrupt microbial membranes or block viral entry. However, the broad distribution of these anionic features across various tissues presents significant challenges for achieving high drug selectivity and minimizing off-target toxicities.
