NGO1549 and NGO0265 are surface-exposed proteins of Neisseria gonorrhoeae that serve as critical components of the bacterial cell division machinery [2, 3]. NGO1549, also known as FtsN, is an essential cell divisome protein that coordinates peptidoglycan synthesis during cytokinesis, while NGO0265 is a predicted cell division protein [3, 5]. These antigens were identified as high-priority vaccine candidates using the AI-driven EDEN platform, which evaluates proteins based on their predicted protective efficacy [2, 6]. They are highly conserved across various gonococcal strains and are often developed as a chimeric fusion protein (e.g., CHIM_0265_1549) to maximize immunogenicity [3, 10]. In preclinical models, immunization with these antigens elicits potent complement-dependent bactericidal antibodies (SBA) that significantly reduce the bacterial burden and duration of vaginal colonization [3, 5]. Given the global rise of multidrug-resistant N. gonorrhoeae, these cell division proteins represent a strategic focus for the development of a protective vaccine [2, 18].
