Neisseria gonorrhoeae Outer Membrane Vesicle Antigen (NG OMV Antigen)

Target
NG OMV Antigen
Molecular classification
Bacterial outer membrane component, Antigen, Vaccine candidate
01

Overview

Neisseria gonorrhoeae outer membrane vesicle (OMV) antigens are components of small, spherical vesicles (~50 nm in diameter) naturally released from the outer membrane of N. gonorrhoeae. These OMVs contain a variety of surface-exposed proteins and other molecules derived from the bacterial outer membrane, including key antigens such as PorB, Opa proteins, PilQ, and NHBA. They play roles in pathogenesis by delivering virulence factors, modulating host immune responses, and evading innate immunity. Several surface-exposed antigens within N. gonorrhoeae OMVs are recognized by antibodies generated against related Neisseria species, supporting cross-protection between species. The presence of conserved surface-exposed antigens makes N. gonorrhoeae OMV components attractive vaccine targets.
