Target intelligence / Profile preview
The capsular polysaccharide of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup Y is a virulence factor composed of repeating units of alternating D-glucose and partially O-acetylated sialic acid residues. It protects the bacteria from phagocytosis and complement-mediated killing, contributing to the pathogenesis of meningitis and septicemia. It is the target antigen for conjugate vaccines against N. meningitidis serogroups A, C, W135, and Y.
Antibodies targeting the capsular polysaccharide induce complement-mediated killing and opsonization.
