Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Neisseria meningitidis group Y capsular polysaccharide is a complex polysaccharide composed of alternating D-glucose and N-acetylneuraminic acid residues. It is a key virulence factor that enables the bacteria to evade host immune responses. As such it is an important antigen for vaccine development. When conjugated to carrier proteins, it elicits a robust T-cell dependent humoral immune response leading to protective antibody production and preventing invasive disease.
Conjugation with carrier proteins enables T-cell dependent antibody production and opsonization/complement activation upon bacterial exposure.
