Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A capsular polysaccharide (CPS) is a key virulence factor and the primary antigenic determinant for this serogroup. It forms the basis for classification, epidemiological tracking, and vaccine development against serogroup A meningococcal disease. It is composed of repeating units of O-acetylated (α1→6)-linked N-acetyl-D-mannosamine-1-phosphate (ManNAc-1-P).
Antibodies targeting the polysaccharide mediate complement-dependent killing or opsonization.
