NELL1 antisense RNA 1 (NELL1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the NELL1 gene locus. As an antisense RNA, NELL1-AS1 may regulate NELL1 gene expression through transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, and RNA–RNA interactions. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it may act in cis (locally) or trans (at a distance) to modulate the transcription, stability, or translation of the sense NELL1 transcript. While the NELL1 protein is implicated in diseases such as osteosarcoma and is a candidate for therapeutic intervention, the specific biological roles and disease associations of NELL1-AS1 are not currently well characterized in the literature and require further research.
