Neovascularization associated with tendinopathy

Molecular classification

01

Overview

Neovascularization associated with tendinopathy involves the aberrant growth of small blood vessels and accompanying nerves into normally hypovascular tendon tissue. This process is driven by factors such as increased expression of VEGF and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), contributing to extracellular matrix degradation, chronic pain, and further tendon degeneration. While neovessel detection by Doppler ultrasound is diagnostic, therapeutic targeting of neovessels or their drivers is experimental and carries potential risks.
